The Evolution of Outflow-Envelope Interactions in Low-Mass Protostars
نویسنده
چکیده
We present multi-line and continuum observations of the circumstellar environment within 10 AU of a sample of protostars to investigate how the effects of outflows on their immediate environment changes over time. CO(1-0) emission probes the high-velocity molecular outflows near the protostars and demonstrate that the outflow opening angle widens as the nascent star evolves. Maps of the CO(1-0) and HCO(1-0) outflow emission show that protostellar winds erode the circumstellar envelope through the entrainment of the outer envelope gas. The spatial and velocity distribution of the dense circumstellar envelope, as well as its mass, is traced by the CO(1-0) emission and also displays evolutionary changes. We show that outflows are largely responsible for these changes, and propose an empirical model for the evolution of outflow-envelope interactions. In addition, some of the outflows in our sample appear to affect the chemical composition of the surrounding environment, enhancing the HCO abundance. Overall, our results confirm that outflows play a major role in the star formation process through their strong physical and chemical impacts on the environments of the young protostars. We have obtained the full 1-200 μm spectrum of the low luminosity (36 L⊙) Class I protostar Elias 29 in the ρ Ophiuchi molecular cloud. It provides a unique opportunity to study the origin and evolution of interstellar ice and the interrelationship of interstellar ice and hot core gases around low mass protostars. We see abundant hot CO and H2O gas, as well as the absorption bands of CO, CO2, H...
متن کاملLow-metallicity Protostars and the Maximum Stellar Mass Resulting from Radiative Feedback
The final mass of a newborn star is set at the epoch when the mass accretion onto the star is terminated. We study the evolution of accreting protostars and the limits of accretion in low metallicity environments. Accretion rates onto protostars are estimated via the temperature evolution of prestellar cores with different metallicities. The derived rates increase with decreasing metallicity, f...

متن کاملEffect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars
Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
متن کاملEvolution of Massive Protostars with High Accretion Rates
Formation of massive stars by accretion requires a high accretion rate of Ṁ∗ > 10 −4 M⊙/yr to overcome the radiation pressure barrier of the forming stars. Here, we study evolution of protostars accreting at such high rates, by solving the structure of the central star and the inner accreting envelope simultaneously. The protostellar evolution is followed starting from small initial cores until...
